Robinson’s Outdoor Store is pleased to present a travel session on the Via de la Plata Camino, hosted by the Victoria Chapter of the Canadian Company of Pilgrims (CCoP).
The Via de la Plata, also known as the Silver Way, is a 1,000+ km Camino route that begins in Seville and travels north through the heart of Spain. From there, pilgrims can connect with the Camino Francés or continue toward Santiago de Compostela via Astorga. Following an ancient Roman trade route that later became an important pilgrimage route, the Via de la Plata is one of Spain’s longest, most historic, and least-travelled routes to Santiago de Compostela.
Along the way, pilgrims encounter ancient Roman towns, historic cities, traditional Spanish villages, forests, rolling countryside, and vast open landscapes. The route is particularly appealing to those seeking a quieter and more contemplative Camino experience, with significantly fewer pilgrims and long stretches of peaceful countryside.
The Via de la Plata is also one of the more demanding Camino routes, both because of its considerable length and the greater distances between some towns and services. In return, it offers an extraordinary blend of history, nature, culture, solitude, and personal reflection.
Our speaker, an experienced long-distance hiker, will share personal insights and experiences from walking the Via de la Plata, providing a fascinating glimpse into the landscapes, history, traditions, and culture of rural Spain.
Discover the rustic heart of Spain—its timeless villages, ancient pathways, Roman heritage, and breathtaking landscapes—and learn what makes the Via de la Plata such a unique and rewarding Camino experience.
