DESCRIPTION:Victoria Chapter of the CCoP is pleased to host a special screening of  the documentary film: “Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago”. This heart felt documentary film is about a diverse group of pilgrims\, ages 3 to 73\, from all over the world as they attempt to cross the famed Camino de Santiago in Spain on foot with only a backpack\, a pair of boots\, and an open mind. The film is 1.5 hours long and there will be a short discussion at the end. Watch the film trailer here. \nDue to limited capacity of 90 at the venue\, we kindly ask you to register for this screening. The event\, snacks and beverages are all offered at no charge and donations are  accepted.\nFree Register Online Here \nParking is limited to church parking (only 14 spots) and street parking on Dogwood Lane\, across from the church\, or farther down East Saanich on Cooperidge Dr. (3 min. walk)  There is no parking on East Saanich Road. DESCRIPTION:Camino Norte (Spain): This is the most northern Camino Route that can start in France and parallels the coast before heading inland to Santiago. Highlights of the route include San Sebastián\, Bilbao\, Santander and Santiago. The isolated stretches along the North Coast of Spain are visually stunning. It is the road less travelled but an amazing walk of up to 890 km. \nWalking in France: France has very extensive walking trails throughout the entire country. The GR routes are usually well marked and there are a number of smaller private accommodations available. This session will discuss some of the more popular routes\, the services and accommodations available and provide you an idea of what you could encounter in terms of topography and sites.

DESCRIPTION:The Camino Frances: This is the busiest Camino route in Spain with almost 400\,000 people completing the route every year. The route was made popular by the movie “The Way” and starts in St Jean Pied De Port in France and crosses Spain to Santiago 870 KM away. This presentation will deal with the route\, services available\, accommodation. It will also provide participants with some of the sites that you could encounter along the way. \nThe Ingles Route (The English Way): This presentation will discuss the dual Camino that starts here in Victoria Canada and to be completed in Spain. The route starts here at Christ Church cathedral and then goes to Tonellis or Central Saanich United Church and then on to Sidney for a total of 32 km. The Camino is completed in Spain on the shortest path. The route starts at  A Coruna and proceeds another 74 km to Santiago to complete the minimum 100 km walk required to get a Compostela. This presentation will cover the logistics of the dual walk and provide you with details of what you will encounter here in Victoria and in Spain. \nClick Here to Register

We ascend to Gore Park\, with slab rocks\, moss\, and frost-covered plants. Continuing to Oak Haven Park\, then climbing a hill to a summit with Saltspring Island and peninsula farms in view. From there\, we walk along Garden Gate Road to Gowlland Todd Provincial Park\, stopping at the beach for a break. We continue on Benvenuto Avenue\, taking a hidden path to Woodward before descending to the ocean. We walk along the ocean to Verdier Park\, where we have a coffee and snack break\, use the bathrooms\, and then meander through the streets before returning to our cars.

There is an option to stop at Royal Oak (4 km) depending on the mood of the group and then again at Uptown (13 km).

Our viewpoint will be Pickles Bluff almost 6 km into the hike. We’ll return through a pretty residential area. Bring poles if you use them. After our walk we will head to The Roost on the corner of McTavish Road and East Saanich Road for a well-deserved coffee break or more. \nDirections: Take exit 26 off Hwy 17. Exit the roundabouts onto McTavish Road. Continue approximately 1 km past the four-way stop on McTavish Road and East Saanich Road. Turn left just past the fire hall on the left onto Cresswell Road. There is parking on both sides of Cresswell.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting Point: Corner of Chemainus Road and Oak Street\nMeeting Point Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jpMXCCF7oVNyEtS46\nRoute Map: https://onthegomap.com/s/n3j9osmt \nThis walk is in response to the membership survey who asked for walks a little up island!  Note the start time for this walk above. \nWe’ll meet at the Country Grocer (49th Parallel Grocery) which is in the strip mall at the corner of Chemainus Road and Oak Street in Chemainus.  We will pick up the Cowichan Valley Trail across the road from the mall and walk it to Stocking Creek Park. This is a very well-groomed and wide path that is mostly flat as it is on (or follows) the old railbed. Once we reach Stocking Creek Park\, we will move into the park trail system to take a view of Stocking Creek Falls and shortly thereafter reach our turnaround point. \nAt the end of the hike\, we will return to the same spot where there is also the Sawmill Taphouse restaurant for those who wish to eat and have some refreshments.
