We’ll begin at Beacon Hill Park and follow easy\, mostly flat urban terrain as we walk the coast along Dallas Road\, passing the Ogden Point Breakwater and its iconic lighthouse. From there\, the path winds past the colorful floating community at Fisherman’s Wharf\, the grand Legislative Buildings\, and the bustling Inner Harbour. After enjoying about 7 km of our 11 km walk\, we’ll take a well-deserved break at the James Bay Farmers Market and the Good Earth coffee shop. With its long shoreline\, rocky headlands\, wooded trails\, and quiet bays\, it has long been a favourite place for hiking\, camping\, and watching boats pass by. \nGetting There\nWalkers are responsible for arranging their own transportation to the meeting point at the day‑use parking area at the end of Beaver Point Road. \n\nBC Ferries departs from Swartz Bay to Salt Spring Island (Fulford Harbour) at 8:35 am.\n\nSailing time: 35 minutes\nBC residents aged 65+ with valid ID travel free Monday–Thursday (excluding statutory holidays).\n\n\nBC Transit Route 9 – Ruckle Park\n\nDeparts Fulford Harbour at 9:15 am and goes directly to Ruckle Park.\nThe return bus leaves Ruckle Park at 3:46 pm for Fulford Harbour.\n\n\n\nPlease consider carpooling or using public transit when possible. \nWhat to Bring \n\nWater and lunch\nHiking poles recommended (some trail sections are rugged)\nAppropriate clothing for changing weather\n\nFacilities at the park include washrooms and water stations. There will also be a prize draw for attendees at the end of the evening 50% of the proceeds will be donated to assist donativo based Albergues.\n\nThe Camino Português (Portuguese Way) is a historic pilgrimage route and the second most popular Camino de Santiago walking routes that end in Santiago de Compostela in Spain where the Cathedral of Santiago is believed to hold the remains of St. James the Apostle. The trail can start either from Porto (260 km) or Lisbon (610 km) or other points along the way\, with the Porto-to-Santiago section being one of the most popular choices and there is the option of using the inland or the coastal route to the fabled city of Santiago\, Spain.\n\nAlong the way\, pilgrims encounter centuries-old churches\, monasteries\, Roman roads\, local cafés and welcoming communities\, while enjoying the distinctive Portuguese and Galician landscapes. The journey combines culture\, nature\, personal reflection\, and camaraderie\, culminating at the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It is more than just a walk\, it is a journey that blends history\, culture\, and personal discovery into an unforgettable experience.\n\nWhether someone walks for spiritual reasons\, cultural curiosity\, exercise\, adventure\, or the joy of slow travel\, the Camino Português is ultimately about embracing the rhythm of the journey and discovering something new about the world and yourself.
