To help with this transition we will start the day with a Canadian favourite\, Tim Hortons\, at Saanich Plaza. Today’s walk takes us along the Lochside Trail to Mattick’s Farm where we can stop for a coffee at Adrienne’s Tea Room and Restaurant. If this seems too early for a cup of coffee we can continue on for another 5 km to Tonolli’s Deli.  \nOur next stop takes us to Central Saanich United Church where the second of three Victoria Camino stamps will be issued. We continue along the roads and pathways to Sidney to the final stop at Serious Coffee in the centre of Sidney where the third and final Camino stamp will be issued.  The final stop will be the Surly Mermaid we can celebrate the end of our five-day walk. We start our day with a quick detour to St Andrew’s Cathedral where pilgrims can get a stamp towards their Victoria Camino. Two more stamps will be available on March 25th which can be used towards the Camino Ingles. \nBy the 3rd day of a long walk\, it is natural to feel tired and we will start with a cup of coffee to get us going. Much of the walk today will be along the water taking in some of the best Victoria has to offer. Walking poles are advised. Bring water and snacks as there are no services along the way.  The lagoon can be windy\, intensely sunny and hot all at the same time. From the park\, the route follows a series of quiet residential streets and connector trails leading to the Rogers Street pedestrian overpass across the Pat Bay Highway\, then continues on to the Colquitz River Trail. \nAround the 5‑kilometre mark\, we will pass the Royal Oak Shopping Centre\, where we can stop for coffee at McDonald’s or Tim Hortons. From there\, the route goes through the tunnel under the highway and continues on to the Rithets Bog Trail. After leaving the bog\, we follow additional connector trails and quiet streets through the Broadmead area. The total elevation gain is 375 m with a similar descent. There is parking on both sides of Cresswell Road. Our route takes us past several impressive old-growth Douglas firs\, a quiet lily pond\, to the peak of Mount Newton and the possibility of a short descent to Pickles Bluff. \nThe trails range from easy to intermediate with some hills and stairs. Please watch your footing and bring poles if you like using them. There are no toilet facilities on the trails themselves\, but we’ll make a short detour to the parking lot outhouse after three kilometres. \nAfter the hike\, we’ll head to The Roost (at East Saanich Road and McTavish) for coffee or a bite. \nAt this time of year\, trail conditions can change quickly. There is an initial downhill section followed by a flat/gradual uphill hike back up to the old rail bed for an easy return back to our starting point. Being a country hike there are also no coffee shops along the way. DESCRIPTION:Meeting Point: Francis King Regional Park main parking lot\nMeeting Point Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/M9BEgYEGnAvcVaB3A\nRoute Map: https://onthegomap.com/s/l4329945 \nThis route in Francis King Regional Park takes us through three different trails: the Centennial\, Panhandle & High Ridge Trails. The walk starts on the Centennial trail to the right of the Nature House. The trail meanders through lush forested areas that are well-shaded as well as some open areas\, skirting  the Highlands golf course.
